Professor Fasli Jalal is a former Deputy Minister of Education and Indonesian Culture. Started his career as an academician and a Professor in Clinical Nutrition at Andalas University, West Sumatra, Professor Fasli Jalal walked his inspiring path to improve the quality of Indonesia’s education through his position in the government since 1991.

Professor Fasli Jalal was once appointed as the Head of the Department of Nutrition, Bureau of Health and Nutrition, National Planning and Development Agency in 1991, and later trusted by the Minister of Education and Indonesian Culture to become an Expert in Educational Resources. In 2001, he was also appointed as the Director General of Non-Formal Education and Youth.

During his professional career, Fasli Jalal has collaborated with some of the most prominent international organizations such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as a consultant. He also has experienced as a counsellor at the Indonesia-Canada World Youth Exchange Alumni, Chairman of International Council on Management Population (ICOMP), and  Board of Directors of World Association on Cooperative Education (WACE)

Up to recent, he still writes and edits articles, journals and books. His special interests include education, early childhood education, and nutrition. Fasli Jalal has an avid involvement in youth education development and always gives a warm welcome to youth organizations that need advice or direction to develop their organization.

Fasli Jalal has received The Most Outstanding Alumni Award (2001) from the Canada World Youth in Montreal and the Henry-Kauffman Prize (2010) for his contribution to the development of education especially for Eastern Indonesia. He was the first person to receive this award. He earned his medical degree from Andalas University and Ph.D. in Nutrition from Cornell University, USA.
