About

Dr. Wicaksono Sarosa likes to see himself as a 'knowledge worker'. He enjoys facilitating knowledge transfer processes in promoting sustainable development, good governance (including the role of civil society), urban and community development. In 2014, Wicak ended his five-year tenure as Executive Director of the Partnership for Governance Reform, a multi-stakeholder grant-making organization that promotes good governance in the areas of democratization, decentralization, bureaucratic and public service reform, civil society empowerment, anti-corruption, human rights and justice, environmental sustainability and poverty alleviation. Between 2007 and 2009, Wicak worked as the lead on a number of agendas, including the formulation of national urban policies and strategies commissioned by the Indonesian National Planning Agency, the Ministry of Public Works and the World Bank. In addition, Wicak also oversaw an analytical study on district planning and budgeting commissioned by the Decentralization Support Facility. Wicak has also been a team leader and independent evaluation team member of various donor-supported projects. He has also served as a trainer and facilitator on projects in Vietnam, Cambodia, Bhutan, Thailand and Australia. From 2001 to 2006, Wicak served as Executive Director for the Urban and Regional Development Institute (URDI). Wicak is currently still active for URDI, sitting on the Foundation Board. Previously, from 1997 to 2009, Wicak has taught various classes (urban ecology, city management and planning methods/processes) at Trisakti University. Wicak graduated from Institut Teknologi Bandung with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture. He earned a Master's degree with a Fulbright scholarship and a doctorate in urban and regional planning from the University of California at Berkeley, USA.
