Prof. Dr. dr. Akmal Taher SpU(K)
Prof. Dr. dr. Akmal Taher, SpU(K) is currently the President of Indonesia’s Urologist College while he shortly sat as an advisor to the National Task Force of Covid-19 Handling. He was also the Special Adviser for Indonesia’s Minister of Health on Service Development (2014-2019), a practicing urologist, and a professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia. Prof. Akmal has a patent right over the use of inhibitors of phosphodiesterase IV in Germany, United States of America, Canada and Japan.
Upon his graduation as a urologist in 1988, he continued his education to Hannover Medical School, Hannover, Germany where he earned his PhD in 1993 and simultaneously earned his Doctoral degree from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia. His career rose consistently as he was appointed as Chief Director of a national hospital, Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital and the President of the Indonesian Urologist Association.
Following his significant achievements in the academic aspects of medical education, Prof. Taher has received numerous awards such as Satyalancana Karya Satya for having dedicated himself as a civil servant for over twenty years in 2004, Best Research from the Ministry of Research and Technology (1997), Großhaderner Innovationspreis, Jerman (1994) as well as Best Young Researcher from Indonesian Science Institution (LIPI Indonesia) (1993).
