Tobacco consumption is categorised as the number one preventable cause of death worldwide. Ironically, this condition is not considered a threat because the percentage of young smokers in Indonesia has increased significantly. This is actually an obstacle to the fulfillment of equitable health and welfare rights due to the risk of non-communicable diseases that it will cause. In response to this issue, CISDI strives to improve public health through a holistic and systemic approach, one of which is through tobacco control.
Since 2016, CISDI has contributed to several tobacco control efforts: starting with tobacco prevention education for adolescents, then shifting to tobacco tax advocacy efforts to control consumption, and beginning to contribute to the development of smoking cessation programmes or smoking cessation support implemented by the Ministry of Health, while continuing to advocate for the implementation of tobacco taxes.
