Quarantine in red zones remains a mandatory option to control the spread to other areas. In Indonesia, the first infections were found spreading in the Jakarta area and its surroundings, announced on March 2, 2020. In early March, the majority of cases in Indonesia were in Jakarta, with over 90% of cases located there and only a few provinces affected. However, within weeks, around 50% of the total cases were discovered in 33 other provinces. A 2019 survey by the Ministry of Transportation indicated that 14.9 million people living in Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Tangerang-Bekasi (Jabodetabek) traveled for the Eid al-Fitr celebration, with Central Java being the main destination (37.7%), followed by West Java (24.9%), and East Java (11.1%).
